3rd Annual Vermont Film Series

All films are presented in the Ada Paresky Education Center of the Bennington Museum at 7 p.m.
Admission is $5 per person at the door.
October 5 - Alexis Holloway and Bill Simmon: Short Films

Alexis and Bill will share short films they have created independently and together, including The Perfect Goodnight Kiss, awarded an Honorable Mention at the 2004 Vermont International Film Festival. This film explores the universal nature of love from three very different perspectives.

November 2 - Meredith Holch: Homegrown Animation

A hands-on stop-motion animation demonstration and Q&A will follow a selection of captivating animated shorts. Picture Perfect (8 minutes) is a poignant look at Vermont's changing landscape and disappearing rural way of life. In the 28-minute film No Place Like Home, images made from translucent, layered tissue paper accompany the voices of refugees as they relate their experiences of resettling in Vermont.

December 7 - Michael Fisher and Maria Rosenblum: Short Films

Michael and Maria will share and explore the similarities and differences in their filmmaking styles and techniques. Michael's films are short, thought-provoking vignettes, full of rich visual imagery. Maria's 30-minutes film, Magnetic Poles, is about life's attractions and repulsions, and romance on the skids.

January 4 - Morgan Faust: The Treasure of Thomas Beale

Morgan will screen her 2003 documentary film about the legendary $25 million of gold buried in 1821 in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Journey with Morgan as she seeks to uncover the truth about Thomas Beale and his treasure, and perhaps learn a little more about the nature of desire and the power of belief. Morgan will also share the trailer for her current project, Til Death Do Us Part.

February 1 - Student Film Night

Welcome back the video production students of the Southern Vermont Career Development Center as they share their work with us. The students will share a variety of films, including short narratives and documentaries. Don't miss the opportunity to meet the future of Vermont filmmaking.

March 7 - Rob Mermin: Silents Are Golden

Silents Are Golden is a one-man show illustrated with a dazzling array of clips from over 50 silent films. Interspersed between the film sections, Rob will demonstrate the techniques used by the silent actors. The program will shed new light on the acting style of the silent era and give the audience a fresh look at the stars. Rob Mermin is the founder of the Vermont-based Circus Smirkus.
