June 11 - October 30     Grandma Moses and the 'Primitive' Tradition    The Bennington Museum is home to the largest public collection of paintings by Anna Mary Robertson Moses (1860-1961) in the world. Better known as Grandma Moses, the artist was catapulted to international fame during the 1940s as the result of her charming, naïvely executed, paintings of rural American farm life. To commemorate the 150th year of Grandma Moses’ birth the Bennington Museum is organizing a major exhibition, “Grandma Moses and the 'Primitive' Tradition”.  This exhibit features many of Grandma Moses' paintings which are rarely on view, as well as items relevant to her life, and paintings by other primitive self-taught painters such as Patsy Santos, Forrest Moses, Wil Moses and more.

(Note-the museum’s permanent display of Moses’ work on the first floor will remain on view during this special temporary exhibition).
