Focus on Young Artists at the Bennington Museum this February

February is the month for young artists at the Bennington Museum! The museum showcases the talented youth of Bennington with three separate events in the month of February. The Annual Student Art Show once again brings the artwork of the region’s elementary, middle, and high school students to the museum in a display of whimsical projects from young students, to the more serious work of older students. The exhibit runs from February 1st –March 4th. Celebrate the opening on Saturday, February 3rd with free admission to museum all day. Enjoy special shows, the permanent collection, and complimentary mulled cider and refreshments. This free day is offered as part of the Bennington Winter Carnival Weekend.

In an interesting twist to the Vermont Film Series, which recognizes Vermont filmmakers, the museum will host an evening of short films from Southwestern Vermont Career Development Center students on Friday, February 9th at 7pm. These films are Short Film Winners selected by a committee of people closely involved with the Vermont Film industry. Admission for this event is $5/person, students free. The Vermont Film Series is sponsored by the Applejack foundation and the Vermont Film Commission.

To round out the month’s focus on the creative youth of the area, the museum will also host the Young Musician’s Concert on Saturday, February 10th beginning at 11 am. The concert starts off with an instrumental performance from 25 area elementary students. At 1pm, vocal performances from “Standing Ovations” and “Chamber Singers”, the Mount Anthony Union middle and high school singing groups, conclude an afternoon of inspiring music. Admission to this event is free.

The Bennington Museum is located at 75 Main St. (Route 9) one mile west of the intersection of Routes 7 and 9 in downtown Bennington, Vermont. Open 10am -5pm daily. Closed Wednesdays. For more information about the museum, visit the website at www.benningtonmuseum.org or call 802-447-1571.
