Young Talent Showcased at the Bennington Museum

February is the month for young talent at Bennington Museum! Three separate events will highlight artistic talent of the youth of Bennington and surrounding communities. On Friday evening, Feb. 1 at 7 p.m., the museum’s Third Annual Vermont Film Series continues with work by video production students from the Southern Vermont Career Development Center. The professional filmmakers featured in this year’s film series visited with the students to discuss filmmaking and their techniques. Among the films shown this year are “How to Make a Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwich”, an action-thriller called “Spy Girl”, and a documentary on body piercing. The Vermont Film Series is sponsored by Applejack Foundation with additional support from The Knotty Pine Motel. Admission is $5 per person. Don’t miss this opportunity to meet the future of Vermont’s film industry.

On Feb. 2, Bennington Museum will host the opening of the annual Student Art Show, and the reopening of the museum after a winter break. Admission is free for the day. The Student Art Show brings artwork of the region’s elementary, middle and high school students to the museum in a display ranging from whimsical projects by the young students to more advanced work of older students. Certificates of participation will be presented to youth as they arrive. This exhibit runs from Feb. 2 through Mar. 2.

The museum continues its focus on creative youth of the area with a Young Musicians’ Concert on Feb. 10 at 11 a.m. The concert will include instrumentalists from Molly Stark and Monument Schools in Bennington, as well as vocalists from Pownal Elementary School. The concert is free.

The Bennington Museum is located in The Shires of Vermont, at 75 Main St. (Route 9) one mile west of the intersection of Routes 7 and 9 in downtown Bennington, Vermont. Open daily from 10 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., the museum is closed Wednesdays. The museum is just a short ride from Manchester, Williamstown, and Eastern New York.
