| Kevin Bubriski to Exhibit Molly Stark Project |
|
The Bennington Museum regularly hosts local artists who work in a variety of different media as part of their Local Artist Program. Kevin Bubriski’s exhibition Molly Stark Elementary School - A Community of Learners will run from December 1st to December 31st. Drawing on the rich talent of some of Bennington’s youngest photographers, Bubriski will show the work of students from Molly Stark Elementary, in addition to his own photographic portraits of these young artists. During the spring of 2007, Bubriski undertook a photographic project at Molly Stark School that placed a camera and a list of shot requirements in every student’s hands. The work of some of the young photojournalists will be on display at the museum, along with a selection of large scale portraits of the students that Bubriski took as part of the project. Completing the exhibit will be a digital slide show of all 300 of Bubriski’s student portraits, and a soundscape of ambient noises from the halls of Molly Stark Elementary, created by Susan Keese of Vermont Public Radio. A graduate of Bennington College with a Masters of Fine Art, Bubriski has documented some of the world’s most interesting regions, and exhibited his work internationally since 1982. He is the recipient of numerous grants and fellowships, has been featured in photographic publications, produced film and video works, and published four books of his photos. He has taught Documentary Photography at Williams College and Union College. A resident of Shaftsbury, Bubriski states “My aim was to bring to all of us beyond the classroom walls of Molly Stark Elementary, the bright eyes, smiles, curiosity, trust, and friendship expressed in each face of this collective portrait of the Molly Stark kids.” His hope is that “these quickly grabbed portraits of every student at Molly Stark in the spring of 2007 give you a hint of the magic and potential of our very own youngest generation and most valuable resource right here in Bennington.” |
