Farming, circa 1948, with Author John Hall

John S. Hall, dairy farmer and author of the novel The West Window, will be discussing his book and the farming community in Vermont, circa 1948, when he visits the Bennington Museum on Wednesday, Feb. 20 at 7 p.m. This is a free event. Signed copies of the book will be available for purchase. Hall will exhibit large photographs and artifacts relating to farming as written about in his book.

A graduate of UVM with a degree in agricultural economics, Hall was raised on a small farm in Bennington and has been a dairy farmer in East Montpelier for over forty years. Prior to farming, he spent five years working for the UVM Extension Service.

Published in 2006, The West Window is his first novel. Set in 1948, it tells the heartwarming story of a 60 year-old farmer, Harold and a 19-year-old orphan, Shirley and their struggle toward mutual understanding in a changing Vermont. Hear about their survival, change.

The Bennington Museum is located at 75 Main Street (Route 9), Bennington, in The Shires of Vermont. The museum is just a short ride from Manchester, Williamstown, and eastern New York. Open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., the museum is closed on Wednesdays. Visit www.benningtonmuseum.org or call 802-447-1571 for more information about the museum
