Tri-State Archeology Conference in Bennington
A Tri-State Archeology Conference will be held at the Bennington Museum on Saturday, April 26 beginning at 8:00 a.m. Sponsored by The Vermont Archaeology Society, the all-day conference will feature speakers from New York, Vermont, and other parts of New England.

Topics to be included are The Archaeological Mitigation of the East Flank of Fort Ticonderoga, the Mohicans, ”Village Snap Shots”: How Lives were Lived, the Archaeology of the Bennington Bypass, African Diaspora Archaeology: Slavery in Southern New England, and Mount Greylock: The Years Before Its Protection, 1760-1900.

Vermont State Archeologist Giovanna Peebles will address the conference on the ancient burial site legislation that was recently introduced in Montpelier. Opportunities for volunteer participation at digs will be presented along with proposed plans for this year's Vermont Archaeology Month (September) and the upcoming Lake Champlain Quadricentennial in 2009.

Registration starts at 8:00 a.m. and the program begins at 9:00 a.m. A $26 registration fee includes the museum entrance, all programs, and lunch. Student fee is $15 with ID. The Bennington Museum is located at 75 Main Street (Route 9), Bennington, in The Shires of Vermont. The museum is just a short ride from Manchester, Williamstown, and eastern New York.
