Local Artist Opening at the Bennington Museum
From June 30-August 11 John C. Leavey will exhibit his paintings in the latest installment
of the Local Artist Program at the Bennington
Museum. The Local Artist Program welcomes artists
from the area who are selected by a jury of local arts professionals.
Leavey’s
show will consist of about 20 landscapes painted in the general Bennington area. His landscapes are always painted on location
and never retouched in the studio. By
doing this he captures a fleeting moment in nature with a free form artistic
style.
John C. Leavey
has had a long and notable career as a painter. He studied at the Art Student’s League in New York and has received numerous awards for his work
including a Prix de Rome Fellowship in Mural Painting to the American Academy
in Rome and a
Louis Comfort Tiffany Grant in painting.
His paintings have been exhibited all over the United States and in Italy, in both solo and group
exhibitions.
An Artist Reception will be held on
Saturday, June
30 from 3:00-4:30 p.m. at the Bennington
Museum. All are welcome
to attend.
You can
view the exhibition with regular admission to the museum. Or better yet buy a
membership! It’s a bargain, with unlimited free admission to the museum and
discounts on many events and the shop. The Bennington Museum is located at 75 Main St. (Route 9) one mile west of
the intersection of Routes 7 and 9 in downtown Bennington, Vermont.
Open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. closed Wednesdays. For more information, visit the website at www.benningtonmuseum.org.
