Monet’s Gardens at the Bennington Museum

Join the Bennington Museum for an insightful discussion about Monet’s Gardens on Thursday, October 11 at 7:00 p.m. “The Artist’s Eye: An Interpretation of Monet and His Gardens in Giverny” is presented in conjunction with the exhibit “Master of Impressionism & Beyond”. The lecture will be given by artist Leslie Parke, who spent five months as a Lila-Wallace Readers Digest Artist-in-Residence at the Claude Monet Foundation in Giverny, France. This event is free to the public.

This fascinating discussion delves into the current view of Monet’s famous garden, in addition to the historical materials that explore his concepts in setting up the garden and its evolution. Parke will also address Monet’s complicated private life as well as the growing international artist colony in Giverny at the time, which included artists Frederick MacMonnies and Theodore Robinson. Both of these artists had ties to Bennington, VT and their works can be seen in the exhibit “Masters of Impressionism & Beyond”, running through October 31.

Leslie Parke lives in nearby upstate New York. Her work has been shown throughout the United States, and is currently on view at the David Zapf Gallery in San Diego. Her work can also be seen at www.leslieparke.com.

The Bennington Museum is located at 75 Main St. (Route 9) one mile west of the intersection of Routes 7 and 9 in downtown Bennington, Vermont. Open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Closed Wednesdays. For more information, visit the website at www.benningtonmuseum.org or call 802-447-1571.
