On August 21 from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., adults are in for a treat as the Bennington Museum presents State of Craft Folded Baskets led by Brattleboro craft artist, Jackie Abrams. She will lead the group as they work with cotton paper, weave a flat mat, and then experiment with twill weaves and color designs. Then the class will fold and shape their work to create a 3-dimensional basket. Abrams has been a basketmaker since 1975 when she first apprenticed to Ben Higgins, an 81-year old traditional white ash basketmaker. Since 1990 she has been exploring the possibilities of paper as a basketmaking material. She exhibits her work at galleries and museums, and is a featured artist in "State of Craft" Exhibit. She teaches throughout the U.S., Canada, Ghana, and Australia. The cost for this workshop is $40 for the class and $25 for the materials. Registration is required, and can be made by calling the museum at 802-447-1571.
